Slide Masters, Layouts and Themes

I have created a Storyline template with two slide masters - one for titles and one for content slides. There are several different layouts for the content slides.
I have imported some slides from PPT and would like to apply the content layout from the content slide master. I can do by this right clicking on slide background and selecting layout. However, I think I should be able to this on the Design tab. Clicking the thumbnail in the design tab always applies the master title layout. Can I get it to apply the master content layout?
Does this involve creating a theme file? If so, how do I create a theme.

Hi Niall,
Within the Design tab you won't be able to update the slide layouts based on the masters, but you may want to review the other ways in which Storyline allows you to update the slides.
