Software Simulation in Storyline using pre-recorded screencasts

Oct 17, 2022

Is there a way to use Storyline's automatic software simulation options with a pre-recorded screencast video (not in Storyline)? It's from a software program that only our client has access to, so the initial screencast video has to be supplied by an internal user on a locked down system (without using Articulate).

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out!

Storyline 360 needs to recognize the user's input in order to generate step-by-step slides. There isn't a way to convert a video that was recorded using a different software into a Storyline 360 step-by-step simulation because of the absence of the inputs.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for your quick response. I thought this was the answer and saw the posts from 6 years ago but thought I would check in case something changed. I was thinking about trying to get a screencast from the client with the mouse cursor removed or resized and slow movements, and then using Storyline to do a screencast of the screencast... not sure if that works as have never tried it and likely too complicated to replicate the movements. It would probably be easier for me just to build the simulation from screen stills, but I love a challenge! :)
