Sound on different layers

Jul 09, 2020

I have learned, that it's not possible to have background music for one complete scene. Is it possible to have background music for different layers (one base layer with several copies)?

Hi Nicola,

That's correct! Currently, it's not possible to play background music across slides in Storyline. We have a feature request for that, and I'll be sure to add you to the list of folks in that report!

To answer your question:

Is it possible to have background music for different layers on a slide?

Yes! You can place audio on the base layer or any of the slide layers, but be sure your slide layer properties on every layer are interacting correctly with each other.

For example, if you have audio on the base layer, you would want to un-select the option on every slide layer to Pause timeline of base layer.

That's just one way to go about it. Check out these discussions for more insight on using background music!

Thanks Ren. Now, it`s working. I have the same background sound on each layer.

Unfortunately, I can`t decrease the volume of the background music.

It it possible to decrease it by using the "edit button" and I see in the timeline, that the volume was decreased. But in the final video, the volume is still the same. It there any additional function, I need to change?

Hi Nicola,

Can you confirm that you've edited the audio volume by opening up the Audio Editor window?

Once you decrease the volume, click OK, and be sure to Save & Close it. If you're not experiencing a change in volume after editing, please share your file with us so our support engineers can take a look!
