Spell check problems

Nov 02, 2018

Hello,

The spell check feature in Storyline isn't working correctly. When a word is misspelled sometimes the software doesn't catch it, or when it does and underlines it in red I will right click and there either won't be a replacement or if I select the replacement it doesn't fix it.

Also, every time I use contractions it tells me they are misspelled (e.g., "doesn't" will show incorrect and it often will just show "doesn't" when I right click but then  either not fix it or it replaces it so this shows up: doesn't't).

I'm at a loss as to how to fix this and it's making editing tricky.

Hi Alexandra!

We've seen other reports of spell check issues like this, but this has been a tough one to nail down. Similar to what you experienced, other folks reported that the spell check tool doesn't recognize contractions, and the word suggestion will be incorrect.

Do you notice that the red underline will disappear if you click outside the text box? We've seen that has been a good workaround for most people.

Our team has eyes on this issue, and I'll be sure to add your experience to our report. If anything changes, we'll let you know!

Great news, Alexandra - and those following along!

We fixed the issue you reported where the spell check tool would not recognize contractions and return wrong spelling suggestions.

Here's how you can update Storyline 360 to see all the latest features and fixes. If this problem resurfaces, please record a Peek 360 screencast for me, and I'll be happy to help!

That's great Katie about the contractions but what about the second half of the spell check issue. When in Notes, the system recognizes the typo, offers the correct spelling, but when selecting, it does NOT replace it with the selected correct spelling. You literally have to manually update, and then the red line goes away. This seems counter productive. Any news on that front?

Thanks!

Hello!

I'm experiencing the same thing....see the attachment...I have a small box for a learner to type in something, when they click submit, the next layer displays the correct wording/spelling, etc....however the RED LINE that indicates error still displays.

I've added by .story screen images so you can see my setup

He is my 2 cents, when I hold down my right button on my mouse for a long time, may up to 10 seconds it corrects most of my miss spells. Doesn't always work, I have learned to just work around. Not a good speller anyway. The other thing I do is to publish in word, find the corrections and put them in. I then use the word doc for my script for our voice talent. o the publication in word is not wasted time. Word will give me a quicker voice to double check also.

Hi Joyce,

This issue is still open as we continue tracking user impact.

I wanted to share some information on how we define bugs and how we tackle them when they occur.

Do you know what version of Storyline you're using?

You can check by going to:
Help > About Articulate Storyline

We are currently on Build 3.41.22450.0 of Storyline 360. You can read all of the details here.

I just tested a sample and did not get the errors reported above. What are your dictionary settings?

Hi, everyone.

I just wanted to share that we are no longer seeing the bug reported where contractions are underlined as spelled incorrectly in Notes using the latest build of Storyline (3.61.27106.0).

If you're using the latest version and you're still experiencing this issue, please reach out to our support team through a case

Hi, Richard.

If you're still experiencing the bug where contractions are underlined as misspelled in Notes when using version 3.63.2768.0, can you share a sample .story file so we can investigate?

I tried it on my end, but I can't reproduce it. You're welcome to submit the file privately through a support case
