States look slightly different than they should

Apr 01, 2019

I'm working on a project that needs to be very accurate as students will be moving an arrow back and forth along syringe measurements. I did this by having a state for each of the positions the arrow can have. When I click "Edit States" and look at the alignment of the arrow to the syringe, it all looks great. When I enter the preview, however, everything is shifted a few pixels. Normally I wouldn't care but it's making the arrow not align with the syringe measurements. How can I fix this?

Hi Marilyn,

I'm not sure how you have put your slide together, but I have attached a quick demo that may give you some ideas if you haven't already figured them out.

Like you, I also used states to represent the amount of liquid in the syringe and, by making the fill colour 50% transparent and having no outline colour, the graduations on the syringe are still visible. For my arrow, I have used a slider and made the track invisible by using no outline or fill. By setting the length of the track such that the slider can run from 0 to 10 on the syringe and then setting the start and end to 0 and 100, each cc on the syringe is represented by 10 counts on the slider. I have used this in conjunction with state changes every 0.5 cc to try to make the motion relatively smooth.

I have left the slider count visible just for testing purposes and the state changes only go up to 7 as I figured this was enough to demonstrate the principle.

Hope this is helpful.
