Status change for topic/lesson

Dear all,

I am trying to create a simple menu with status change indicator. There are few topics and related sub-topics.

In my example:

I want to change the status of menu page Topic 1 to visited/completed based on the status of sub-topics. It is working fine for layer level. However, when I go back to base menu (base layer) it does not show any indicator. 

Appreciate if you could guide me to the correct procedure. Many thanks in advance.

I am using storyline 1.
