.story file goes into Google Drive and comes out as a zip file...why?

Jun 28, 2023

I had my computer updated and so in preparation for that I put almost all of my .story files in Google Drive, assuming I'd be able to pull them out again and put them back on my computer after the update.

Ney! Ney!

I just tried to download one and it did not come out as a .story file. It came out as a zip file - the same as a storyline output folder.

I've been reading threads here and things look dire. There's no way to retrieve it from the storyline output file. It's no longer a .tmp file. I can't restore a version from Review 360.

Sweet buttered crackers, I'm in trouble!

So, if I manage to ride this disaster and I want to keep a .story file in a place other than on my computer what should I do?

Some browsers when you download files will append them as a zip. Internet Explorer used to do that all the time. But as Judy mentioned, you can change the extension to .story

I'd try to extract the zip first. If it's the story file zipped up, then when you extract it should be inside the folder. If it extracts and it's the guts of the file with a bunch of folders and gibberish, I'd change the extenion.
