story.html file was not loading on browsers in storyline 3

May 30, 2017

I have been working on articulate storyline 3; However, I'm struggling with the output. when I run the story.html file then the course contents was not open on the browser. Just display the blank screen and loading symbol (face this issue in all browsers).

whereas I run the story_flash.html file from same publish version then the course was running fine in all browsers.
This issue also faced on LMS.
Please have a look on attached snaps.

Please suggest me or guide me how to tackle this issue.

Hi Akash,

What browser are you trying to view the HTML5 content in? You'll want to make sure it's one of the supported browsers here.

Also, is the screenshot you shared from within your LMS? Did you publish for web or LMS? Have you looked at testing it within SCORM Cloud? It's a free standard for testing LMS content so that would help narrow down the issue you're seeing.

Thanks a ton for your reply.

I have gone through your guideline & would like to mention that I have used Chrome: Version 58.0.3029.110, IE Edge, Firefox: 53.0.3.

Yes, publish output for LMS (SCORM 1.2). The screenshot provided is not from LMS. I used Moodle LMS for testing and same output try in Cloud Scorm but the result is same.
Please have a look on my findings (Cloud Scorm).

When the publish setting set HTML5/Flash then course open with index_lms_html5.html and output is not loading on browsers.

But when the publish setting set Flash/HTML5 then course open with index_lms_flash.html and course is successfully loading on browsers.

why does this happen with html5?

Hi Akash,

When you're launching the course with the HTML5 first or only as the publishing options we'll direct to that different launch URL.

As for why it's not loading, that's difficult to say without testing the link or .story file. I'd be happy to do that if you could share either (or both even!) of them here.

You can upload the .story file using the “ADD ATTACHMENT” button at the bottom of the reply window.

Hm, this file won't actually preview for me either! The Preview is  the HTML5 output - so that's certainly behaving oddly. Have you seen the same thing when testing that on your end?  I tried importing a slide at a time into a new file, and the first slide worked, but after that it got stuck again.

Can you confirm that you're working on local project files (on your C drive or desktop)?

Hi Akash,

Any slides after the first slide caused the preview to not work for you? I'd say try importing each one, on it's own or one at a time and that would help you determine which one may be causing the problems.

Anything else special about how this file was created? Was it created in a an earlier version of Storyline than Storyline 3?

Hi Akash,

Thanks for sharing that one slide. I looked at removing individual elements or slide layers as a whole to see if I could get it to preview. I still get the blank screen. I also tested changing the player to the built in Storyline player - and that displayed properly the player but the slide still showed as the grey seen here.

I can't see anything on this particular slide that would cause the behavior, but I'd recommend rebuilding it from scratch and make sure that it follows along with the general guidelines here for working on your .story files and adding in images, audio, etc. from local files as well.

Hi Ashley,

The issue is resolved.

I found an issue in the slide. When I delete Text box ("Text Box 2" ) then slide was a preview as well as html5 file launch in all browser successfully.

So no need to recreate the slide from scratch. The issue is only in "Text Box 2".

Thanks for your valuable support.

Thanks & Regards

AM S

Thank you, Akash! I was also running into the blank screen with the perpetual loading symbol publishing in Storyline 3 to HTML5. I was able to preview all but the first slide, which also made publishing a problem. It was only a problem with the HTML5 option, not Flash.

I deleted a text box in the first slide and it solved the issue. I found many similar posts on this problem, but yours was the only one that suggested checking a text box. Thanks so much for posting this solution!
