Storyline 2 Files Became Huge in File Size and Corrupt - Can't open them

Feb 18, 2016

Both my colleague and I have had issues where all of sudden a Storyline2 file becomes a huge file size. It was fine 2 days but now it won't open because it's so huge. The file is acting like it’s a corrupt file. There are no videos in it. I've tired restarting my computer and the software of course, etc. And before this happened, my file was really slow, would error, and then just shut down like a previous post.

Any advice, solutions, or thoughts? Please help as I don’t want to recreate two modules!

Hi, Becki --

Thanks so much for your question and I'm really sorry to hear about your Articulate Storyline project file. There is a chance it could be corrupt beyond recovery. However, there may still be a working version of your project in your temp files. Here's how to check:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.
