Storyline 2 - issue with Sidebar

Oct 02, 2014

Can you fix this please?

I set up my player to display the Glossary in the Sidebar and then decided I wanted to use the Notes feature instead. I deselected Glossary in the Player and selected Notes but the change is not taking affect. When I preview the slide, I still see the Glossary feature in the Sidebar.

I've tried to save, close out the title and return to it, with only Notes selected in the Sidebar - and even 'moved the Glossary feature the Top Panel - but I'm unable to get my Notes to appear in the Sidebar.

... plus... even though I deselected the Glossary option, it still appears on the Player when I preview - whether it's at the Top of the Player or in the Sidebar.

I am not able to get my Notes feature to show up at all.

Hi Christine,

I'm not able to recreate the behavior you're describing on my slides - but your mention that it was fixed by copying elements to another slide makes me wonder if you had set up a slide to have some custom player properties instead of using the standard?

If you're still having difficulty, we'll want to take a look at one of your .story files.

Hello Christine,

Thanks for the update that you did get this fixed. I did test a file and added the glossary to the player settings, then removed it and added notes.

It did work as expected.

There is a slide properties setting on each slide, using the gear icon in the lower right hand corner.

Here you can change what shows in the player slide by slide, that will over write what is n the player properties - on that particular slide. The Glossary could have been selected there.

If you do have the same issue again, please let us know and you can attach the .story file here for us to review!

i have a suspicion this may be connected to the fact that I'm working with an IMPORTED PowerPoint slide deck.... I had a similar issue with Layouts. I created the slide - then decided I wanted some of the screen elements to be part of the slide master. So I went into slide-master and created a new Layout. I then tried to apply that layout to the slide but it would not apply.

In both cases, if I created a new slide, transferred my timeline content and then applied the (player or layout) options, it worked.

Please check into the import connection also.

HI Christine,

Importing a powerpoint should work fine - although there are some elements that won't be a one to one import.

The player elements such as the glossary and menu are not elements that would be included in your powerpoint deck though, so I'm unsure how they'd be impacting the .story file. You'll want to check that you're working on local project files for your .story file and your powerpoint file as described here.

Hi Ashley -

just an FYI ...

I did not use the customize (single slide) settings, so that wasn't the case. I never actually had a Glossary when I did the import, I was basically looking for a way to move content 'from the actual slide' into a smaller chunk, and tried a couple of options - but settings wouldn't adjust themselves.... it was 'all SL' related features that would not work allow me to set or change settings.

I'm always working off my hard-drive so that wouldn't be an issue either. I am still inclined to believe there are some kinks that need to be worked out with SL2. If however, I run into the situation again, I will try to capture what's happening in a video to share. I'm not able to do that for these two previous issues because I already deleted and replaced the slides with new ones.

Thank you!
