Storyline 3 and Knowledge Direct

We just upgraded to Storyline 3 and I published my first course but I'm having trouble viewing the slides from our LMS Knowledge Direct.

The player window pops up but nothing appears but this message:

 

Error-unable to acquire LMS API, content may not play properly and results may not be recorded.

I have a ticket in with the LMS but wondered if anyone else had the same problem?

Hi there Deborah, thanks for reaching out! Smart idea to open a support case with your LMS, and hopefully they'll have some insight to share, too!

I have seen the "Unable to acquire LMS API" error occur before, and it's usually caused by the version of Java that you have installed.  Some LMS’s use a Java API object to load content. Since content created in Articulate does not require Java, try this:

  1. Contact your LMS provider and ensure that your installed version of Java is compatible with the version of the LMS you are using.
  2. Ensure that you have published your content as described here
  3. Test your content in another LMS like SCORM Cloud to see if the same thing happens there. 

You can also prevent Storyline from launching your course in a new window by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Home tab and click Player
  2. Click Other on the ribbon. 
  3. Uncheck the box to Launch player in a new window (creates launch page). 
  4. Click OK

Thanks for the update, Deborah. I'm glad that setting did the trick.

As for the player controls, can you tell me a bit more about what's going on?

  • Do they disappear when you launch the course on desktop, mobile, or both?
  • Are you using the default player navigation buttons, or custom buttons on the slide?
  • Can you share a screenshot of the missing controls?
