Storyline 3 inserted audio doesn't play in preview/publish

Mar 12, 2021

I have recently upgraded to StoryLine 3 and when updating a module with Audio I noted the audio files (m4a) that previously work ok do not play in either slide/project preview or when published.

The inserted audio files play OK if the file is double clicked and previewed from the timeline.

On checking the audio output in the story-content folder, the mp3 converted audio files have 0 kb size and give the following error message if played directly:

Can't play

This file isn’t playable. That might be because the file type is unsupported, the file extension is incorrect, or the file is corrupt.

0xc00d36c4

This suggests my storyline is not internally converting the input audio files?

A colleague with Storyline 360 has no issues with the audio files I am using.

I have attached a sample slide with an mp4 and a wav audio file inserted with a single play button along with the published output

I have re-installed the software with no change - running on windows 10

I wonder if the audio files are slightly corrupted? I dropped one into Adobe Media Encoder and converted it to MP3 and then it played fine when I replaced that as the audio source on the slide.

A bit of a pain if you have a lot of files, but it seemed to fix it.

Edit - Should have also said, like you, they were not playing for me using Articulate 360

Hi - thanks for looking at this. I have done some further testing adding wav and mp3 audio files encoded using Adobe Media Encoder and also making an internal recording in Articulate - none of them play in preview or output with valid mp3 file in story-content so I think I must have something wrong with my install but having reinstalled already I am not sure how to  proceed - I will submit a case to Articulate support
