Storyline 3 Track amount of slides in a scene

Aug 08, 2018

Hi All

I am publishing to an LMS and for example I have 3 scenes with 10 slides in each scene. If I publish Scene 1, it doesn't pickup that there are only 10 slides in the scene, so unless I modify the number then the tracking and completion will not work correctly. I see something like the following.

Tracking Slides Viewed (30 of 30)

This looks like a simple thing to modify, but if i am constantly adding and removing slides from a scene, it can become very annoying.

Also I notice that it is tracking slides only. But on a lot of my slides I have tabs that are used to show different layers. So I could have 5 slides in a scene with 3 tabs on each, giving the user 15 screens that they should view.

So, has anyone got.

1. A solution that automatically updates the number of slides tracked in a scene.

2. The ability to track layers as well as slides

Thanks

The publish settings are for the final project which is thought to be the entire file, this probably needs a feature request to adjust the tracking options when publishing by scene. This may be a case of a new feature (publish as scene) needing another feature  (tracking) to be modified.

There is no way to track by layers viewed, the only way to ensure the user viewed the content would be to lock it down so the user cannot progress without seeing al your content, not ideal.

Hi there, Gar.  I'm happy to submit a feature request for you, but I wanted to make sure I understood your use case!  I understand the expectation that when you publish a scene, the publishing options (like tracking) should adjust to be limited to what's included in the scene.

When you are publishing a single scene, do you use that for testing purposes before publishing the entire course?  If the scenes will always remain as separate learning modules, could you import each of them into their own .story file and publish from there?

No need to justify why you're doing what you're doing, but I always like to get a good understanding of what folks need to be successful so I can document it properly!
