I agree, I can understand that it would be hard to implement. Even if there was an on exit trigger that can be added to some slides, and runs just before the final close of a course.
Maybe you could get the user's system date/time every 15 seconds, then if the current time differs from the last time by more than a minute, you could assume that they have resumed the course and send them back to the first slide.

I don't think you can as the resume will set the return slide
Yeah thinking the same as i go through, trying to figure out a trickery way of doing it.
It's too bad we can't read variable data on resume... Would be easy to do then...
