Storyline and Database

Jul 09, 2013

I have articulate storyline and I have a profile of 6000 companies that I  want to store using storyline. So that users can search or filter the companies stored in articulate. Can storyline be used to design a database to perform these functions? I am wondering if it is possible to use storyline to design a database that users can search for information on companies. I also intend to publish on CD viewable by users. Can the published version be password protected on CD?

Hi there John. Welcome to the community!

For the "database" idea, I like it - but I haven't seen anything quite like this before. What you could do is enter the content for each company, either in multiple slides with layers or a single slide with layers, or different scenes. Enable the "Search" feature in the player and users will be able to search by company name, or for keywords.

Learners can use this to search for content within your slides or slide notes. Keep in mind that because the Search field is part of the Menu tab, it'll only appear in your published course if you've marked Menu in the Player Tabs area of the Player Properties window.

For more information on the Search feature, take a look a the article below:

Choosing Player Features

I'm afraid I don't know of a way to apply the password protection you're looking for, though. Maybe some of our community members with experience here can chime in and give you some suggestions. :)

Thanks and best of luck on the project!
