Storyline: Auto-generate Captions from existing Narration Audio

Jan 06, 2023

Is there anything on the roadmap for the automatic generation of captions from narration audio? This would be an incredibly helpful feature, and would enable us to speed up production. Once all the audio has been added to the project, you could run a script over the entire project and it could output a .vtt file that we could then fine-tune prior to adding to the project, or it should continue to be editable in the project as needed. Although some tools already can generate captions from audio, such as Microsoft Teams, having SL do the work would ensure that the right timing is added based on where the audio plays during each slide.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for reaching out! This is not yet in our roadmap, but auto-generating captions from existing narration audio is an excellent idea for a feature request, and others think so too! A feature request has already been submitted for this. I have linked this conversation to that request, so if it makes it onto our feature roadmap, we’ll make sure to update you!

Hello,

I'm interested in this feature as well. We have over 500 courses in multiple languages that will need captions added at some point. It would be much easier to follow the steps that Brian mentioned. Currently I either have to listen to audio then type in captions or purchase software, export audio file, create captions then import captions into Storyline. More facilities are requiring that eLearning includes closed captions which are helpful for their hearing impaired employees or customers.
