Storyline & Canvas LMS troubleshooting when replacing a SCORM file

Jan 31, 2023

Hello, I'm relatively new to Storyline. I've inherited .story files developed by someone else. I needed to edit content in one of them and replace the SCORM file in a live course.

For the first student to access the replaced assignment, the SCORM file only reported 86.2%. The instructor has Canvas module requirements set to require 100% to move forward in the course. I'm fairly confident we have the SCORM file configured correctly - for each little knowledge check, the student must score 100% (with unlimited attempts) to move forward. Each of these checks reports to the Final Assessment slide. There is really no way to get to the final assessment slide without scoring 100% on all the little quizzes along the way.

Any idea why Storyline would report 86.2% as the score to Canvas? I have had a colleague take a look and he can't find anything. Also, I only edited some slide content, no quiz/knowledge check content, and I didn't change any tracking settings when I re-exported the SCORM file.

Is there a place to get help? I can probably eventually resolve the problem, but I don't want our students to have a bad experience while I'm troubleshooting.

I found my own problem by comparing to other Storyline files I inherited. I just randomly had to replace the one file (out of 90!) where the Final Results slide was set up differently than all the others. I believe I'm good to go now that I made the settings of this one match how the others are set up. It's okay if you laugh at me in the replies though. :)

Hi Cheryl,

As Sandeep mentioned, try testing your course on SCORM cloud.  It's an online LMS environment that can be used to figure out whether the issue is with the LMS or the Story file. If you test your course on SCORM cloud and it works perfectly, then your issue is LMS based.

If you get the same results, would you be willing to share your file here or with our support engineers privately in a support case?

Thanks for reaching out!

Hi Sandeep and John,

I did use SCORM cloud as part of my troubleshooting process. I also read all the support articles regarding setting up a Final Results slide. As I said above, I resolved the problem. I just had the bad luck of needing to update one file that was not configured like the others were, probably a small oversight. It should be fine now. I am surprised the issue had not come up before today, since students have been using this assignment for awhile. But it's fixed. :)
