'User must pass each quiz' - Issue
Feb 19, 2019
Situation: I have 7 knowledge check points throughout my course. I have results slide for each of them with different Passing Scores (details below). At the end of the course I have a results slide (named Course Assessment Results) that calculate the results for all the above results slides and I have set 'User must pass each quiz' as the passing criteria. The screenshot of Results Slide properties of this last results slide is what I have included here. I have selected this 'Course Assessment Results' slide for passing results to the LMS.
Problem: When I score a 100% for all knowledge checks - no issues - i get the 'Success' layer of the Course Assessment Results slide. But when I score the minimum score required to pass each knowledge check, I end up in the 'Failure' layer of the Course Assessment Results slide.
Since I set the criteria as 'User must pass each quiz', i am hoping that the users have to only pass each knowledge check. Am I missing something here.

Hello, Sayuj!
Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention. I'm seeing the same problem you're seeing in Storyline 360.
Let me do some more digging to find out why this is happening. If this is a bug, we'll get it reported so we can begin looking at next steps.
If we find a workaround, I'll come back to let you know!
Thanks Alyssa. I think the problem could be the 'score' mentioned below the setting 'User must pass each quiz'. I know this doesn't make sense since the option to 'Combine points' is disabled. But looks like Storyline is still branching out to the 'Failure' slide based on this score. It was at 80% default. If I would have used this option, the pass score would have been just less than 78% (based on my passing score for each knowledge check). So I reduced this score 70% or something and then it worked fine. Please check and let me know if you are able to replicate the same thing. It is possible that my case was just a coincidence.
Hi Sayuj,
Yes, I'm seeing the same thing you're seeing. The strange thing is, I'm only seeing the bug in Storyline preview and in the HTML5 output. The Flash output works correctly.
I'm glad you were able to find a workaround, and I'll keep you posted on our progress with this bug. Here's an inside look at how we tackle issues like this once they are reported to us.
Sure. Thanks. So in the case of 'User must pass each quiz', how does storyline determine the score to pass to the LMS?
Hi Sayuj,
It would be a cumulative score.
When you require that the 'User must pass each quiz', then If learners fail any quiz in the course, then they fail the entire course.
We have some documentation here.
You are right! It is a cumulative score. But the pass criteria is still based on the percentage under 'Combine points from each quiz' (70% as shown in screenshot above). So even if I dont pass all the knowledge checks, if my cumulative score is more than 70%, the LMS reports as 'Completed'. :-(
Hi there, Sayuj. It sounds like that combined score setting is determining what's reported in every scenario when you have the "User must pass each quiz." I'll adjust our report on this issue and, we'll let you know if there are any changes. I'm sorry for the confusion!
Thanks Crystal! My course is complete and I am just waiting for this to be sorted out to release/deploy the training. Can I expect a resolution quickly? Or is this something that will take time?
Hi Sayuj,
Cant we add custom trigger to fix this issue?
Sure thing, Sayuj. A resolution likely won't be in the next release. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more, though.
Has this been fixed? Looks like this issue still exists... Just remove the option if it does not work properly please
Hello Dirk!
We are still seeing this bug in Storyline 360. Our team is currently prioritizing other bug fixes in our upcoming releases so this one hasn't made it on the roadmap. We'll report back to this discussion when we have an update.
Any news on this bug being fixed? It's still happening in the latest SL3 build. (I have 4 quizzes, and despite passing each one, it reports a fail to the LMS)
Hello Alan and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊
Thank you for reaching out for an update. The reported bug associated with this conversation is specific to the failure layer displaying, but the correct information is being sent to the LMS.
It sounds like you're experiencing something a bit different. I'd like you to share your project file with our support engineers to investigate what's happening with your permission. You can share it privately by uploading it here. It will be deleted when troubleshooting is complete.
Hello Sayuj & Dirk,
I have exciting news to share! 🗞
