I have imported a Powerpoint into Storyline. When I convert a few of the slides to freeform quiz slides with hot spots, and then test them in preview mode and in published format, they freeze when I click on the hot spots. I have tried removing all animations/transitions from the PPT, then re-importing into a fresh file, but the problem recurs.

Since you already stated that you have imported the file into a new file, another thing to confirm is that you are working locally as described here. If you are still having issues, you might want to try to repair Storyline. Also, could you please ensure that you are utilizing the most recent SL2 Update? Info on Update 5 can be found here.
