Storyline Crash

Oct 29, 2012

I have experienced this 4-5 times now so was wondering if someone else has also experienced the same.  Storyline crashes when I click on play button on the timeline to play the audio and create cue points.  Now I do not mean to say that every time when I click on this play button, storyline crashes.  But when Storyline crashes, clicking the play button on the timeline is the last action from my side.

Would love to know if someone else has also experienced this?  And if yes, is there a way to avoid this.

Thanks,

Payal

Will surely do so Peter.  That is a good suggestion.  The only thing is that the above issue was experienced while using my other install of Storyline (used by my colleague ) while he was working on a different story file of the same course.  But he too faced similar storyline crashes

You guys make such problems seem no problems at all.  Your forthcoming and accepting attitude is amazing.  And yes the fixes suggested work fine.  I am able to rectify many such unexpected issues by simply importing all my slides to another new story file.  :)

Thanks Peter :)

Hey Tim,

We never really pinpointed precisely what caused the issue, but some general best practices seemed to resolve it. For starters, when creating, editing, or publishing a Storyline project, be sure you're working from your local hard drive (typically your C: drive). Working from a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes you've made to your project, and loss of resources.

If your Storyline software is not working properly, a simple repair may fix the problem.

If the issue persists, can you check if you still encounter the issue when working on a new project in Storyline?

If the issue only occurs in one particular project, you may need to troubleshoot the issue further with this Storyline file. Try importing the slides from this project to a new Storyline file, and see if this helps improve Storyline's performance. Here's how to import slides from one Storyline project into another.

Help! Why does Storyline keep crashing? After reading other posts, I see I’m not the only one experiencing this issue. I’m trying to finish a project but it seems when I add audio or sync, storyline crashes. This is very frustrating and time consuming! When I press play from the timeline, storyline crashes. Now this doesn’t happen every time I press play but I did notice when it does crash that’s what I was doing. I’ve also notice storyline crashes when I sync from the timeline. In addition, the other day I was neither syncing, nor pressing play from the timeline but recording audio when it crashed. I recorded audio for three slides and while I was recording audio for the fourth slide, it crashed.  I’m aware I should be working from my C drive vs. the S. drive but I still experience this issue.

Any suggestions?

Hi Sandie,

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing a number of issues with your Storyline crashing. Thanks for letting me know you're working from your C drive, that's a good start. Some other thoughts:

  • Is it only this one file that you're working on? Have you tried importing it into a new Storyline file?
  • Are you using the latest version of Storyline ( version 3)? You can double check this by going to the Help tab -> About Articulate Storyline. You'll see the version number just under the Storyline heading.
  • Have you conducted a repair of Storyline? The directions on how to do so are here, if the behavior persists after repairing Storyline you may also need to follow these directions to uninstall/reinstall Storyline and the supporting Microsoft software.

If those don't help, let us know and I'd have you submit a Support case so that we can look deeper into your specific files.

Payal, et al.,

Check your A/V file types. I have been having the same issues (along w/ a syncing problem) when working w/ slides w/ an .avi screen video and .wav audio file. I re-recorded the screen video w/ Replay, which outputs to .mp4. It's early to tell for sure but so far I've not had any problems w/ the incessant crashing.
