Storyline file disappeared

Hi everyone,

Both a colleague and I had the same phenomena this week and lost our day's work. When doing a simple save of a file, Storyline closed and the file we were working on is simply GONE. There's not even a corrupt file, it has just completely disappeared from the folder.

Thoughts? Solutions?

Sorry to hear about your project file. 

I'd like to ask a few questions to help clarify your experience: 

  • Was the file hosted on a network/shared drive when it disappeared?
  • You mentioned that this issue happened to you and your colleague - were the both of you trying to access the same file at the same time, or did this issue happen to two different Storyline 360 project files?
  • Does the directory where the missing file was saved get synced to a different location? Or do other files get synced to the directory/folder?

When making changes to a Storyline 360 project file, we recommend working locally to avoid running into data related issues. If you aren't working locally when editing a Storyline 360 project file, try copying the files to a local location first such as 'My Documents' or 'Desktop'. 

If you were already working locally, please open a case with our support team here so we can do an investigation on what happened with your project file.

Thank you for your reply.

We were both working on different courses and it happened on different days. Her instance happened Friday, mine on Monday.
As long-time users, we both always work locally to avoid problems (actually we are so wary of issues that at the end of each day we make copies local/on network drive AND USB…!!).

I had done several saves that day with no issues until as said, Storyline suddenly closed and the whole file of that day was gone.
