Storyline Files Becoming Corrupted if Saved over VPN

Jan 31, 2019

I've been working on some files at home this past week due to the weather.  When I've tried to save them to a remote drive (through a VPN), the next morning, the file is then corrupted and unretrievable.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Welcome to eLearning Heroes, Meg! Glad you're keeping warm in this cold weather.

To prevent file corruption, we recommend saving to a local hard drive (typically the C: drive). Working on a remote drive or an external USB drive can cause erratic behavior due to latency. This article outlines tips to take to reduce the risk of file corruption!

Also, there might be a working version of this project in your temp files! Here's how to check:

  1. Open this folder in Windows Explorer:  %Appdata%\Articulate\Storyline
  2. Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.
  3. Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story
  4. Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

We're crossing our fingers, so let us know how you make out!
