Storyline formatting-issues

Dec 05, 2023

Hi!

We have a lot of issues with Storyline not being consistent when copy/pasting and using the Format Painter.

Please see attached .story-file.

It includes 3 custom buttons: Module, Proceed, and Square.

If you copy the Module-button and paste it into the other slide, it turns into a mess. The border of two of the states changes thickness, the color of the text in the Completed-state turns into a totally different green and the text-spacing in the Disabled-state gets all weird.

If you mark the original button and turn on Format Painter, then try to format-paint the messed up copy, it gets even worse. Please try it out for yourselves.

Same issues for the other buttons, the only one that seem to work with Format Painter is the Proceed-button, but this button is very simple.
The Proceed-button consists of an arrow which is Calibri and the text is Roboto.
The main issue we have with this one is when copied or imported, the arrow changes to a Roboto-arrow in all other states but Normal. However, I couldn't recreate this issue when testing this .story-file. Maybe you guys have more luck. :-)

These issues are very frustrating and lengthen the production-time of our courses as we manually need to fix the buttons every time they're reused...
Please look into this.

Hi Tommy,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this snag. I can confirm that I was able to replicate the behavior you encountered, even after using earlier versions of Storyline 360. The issue doesn't appear to happen for basic shape designs though, so it looks like the complexity of the shape and its formatting contribute to when the issue will be encountered.

I opened a support case on your behalf so we can have our support engineers take a closer look at what's happening. You're in good hands, and someone from our team will be in touch shortly!

I have been seeing this issue for the past couple of releases. When I copy a button and paste it into another slide (or even into the same slide), it pastes in what appears to be the "Hover" state. Although it is showing on the slide in the hover state, the initial state says "Normal." In the screen shot the button on the left is the original one. I copied it and pasted it and it shows up like the one on the right. I then need to go into Button Tools and re-select the border to correct it back. The change to the buttons (and even to test bank answer buttons) also occurs when you import slides from on story into another.

Hi Barry,

Thank you for reaching out! I wasn't able to replicate this behavior on my end. Could you clarify for me when you are pasting if you are selecting Use Destination Theme or Keep Source Formatting? Did you utilize Format Painter at all?

I'd be happy to take a closer look at your file. Feel free to upload to this thread or privately in a support case

Looking forward to hearing from you!
