Storyline Freezes when importing slides and engage

Feb 09, 2015

Hello,

I am getting a little frustrated in trying to upload a PowerPoint that was previously used in Storyline to produce a web app. I have the ppta and the engage files however loading the PowerPoint and its content is not going well.

I either get messages that the engage files are used by another application even though they are on my pc and no one else is accessing them. Then from time to time Storyline 2 freezes and I cannot do anything in it. It does now come back (even when left alone for over 30 minutes). I end up having to terminate the process so that I can go back in to restart my work.

Now I have been saving often however I am noticing a lot of information missing because of the way I am importing the information. Certain link and jump appears to be loaded when having to load one slide at a time. And I am not sure the entire content are being loaded. Oh and I keep getting messages about Articulate Presenter when Storyline 2 attempts to import my PowerPoint slides. Why is that?

Are there requirements I am missing about my PC or software?

Thanks for your help.

Hello Marie,

You will want to make  sure the PPTA file is located in the same folder as the PowerPoint file. Otherwise, Storyline will only import the PowerPoint slides, not the corresponding Articulate resources.

Also, please confirm that you are working locally with all of your project files. If the issue persists, you may want to follow the steps here.

Hi Marie-Agnes,

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulty you've encountered, but I'm having a hard time following the steps you're going through. You're importing a file you created in Presenter into Storyline and it includes Engage elements? You mentioned you're utilizing SL2 - what version of Presenter/Engage do you have installed? You'll want to make sure that your system matches the requirements here - and also, confirm you're working with all local project files. Importing from powerpoint isn't an exact one to one as detailed here - what error message are you seeing when you start importing the files? You'll want to make sure you're following the steps here to conduct the import.

Good morning,

I looked at all the information you provided, thank you. My system has enough ram and free disk space. I checked the steps to import, and they are the ones I was using. Also I have verified that all the files, PowerPoint and Articulate presenter are together and on my c: drive.

The PowerPoint file has 81 slides total to import. The other part is that the majority have Engage property to them.

I noticed that when I load a certain number of slides, the ram used for the operation does not get released afterwards. I notice that using the Windows Task Manage - Performance tab. For each load it used more memory but did not release it. When the memory reached 2gb (even though I have 3gb memory) that is when Articule Story Line 2 would freeze up.

So what I ended up doing is load one scene, save my storyline project, and close Articule. And do that for all 9 scenes I had to load. Each time I closed Articule Storyline 2, it released the memory it was using and I could load each scene. It took longer but I finally loaded every thing. Though I will have to restart because I think some of my early issues have left some orphan information and it will be faster to start again (now that I know how to proceed) then investigation the issues.

So hopefully this can help others when loading a previously used PowerPoint in Articule Storyline where the storyline project is no where to be found.

I'll keep you up to date if I find anything else. Thank you for all your help and information. I have booked marked all of it.

Kind regards,

Marie-Agnes

wait...is that the solution?? What about the rest of us that are experiencing the same problem?  Even though this string is over a year old, I am having the *same exact problem* and I would have hoped Articulate would fix the memory problem by now. I am, by the way, using the very latest Storyline version and I, too, have had to load chunks of ppt slides into Storyline and it is EXTREMELY frustrating when I am on deadline.

Please fix this problem. Or IF there is a fix, can you go back an annotate the original notestring to let all others know about the fix??

Hi Claudia,

I'm sorry to hear your Powerpoint file keeps causing Storyline 360 to freeze up! Take a look at the article below, and see if any of the tips help.

If not, feel free to share your PowerPoint file with our team, and they can take a closer look to see what is causing the issue!
