I'm in the 11th. hour of my project to publish to HTML5, and have found NO hyperlinks work in ANY browser.
We are set to deliver this out output tommorow morning and have tested HTML, exe, and HTML5 output and everything works except the hyperlinks in teh HTML5 output.
The hyperlinks in some cases link to local PDF files (in teh story_content\external_files folder, while other hyperlinks go to inernet sites.
Can anyone provide feedback as to why HTML5 hyperlinks do not work in the latest IE, FF, Chrome, and Safari?
I have the same problem, but so far the hyperlinks only don't work in Chrome when I use the preview project function after publishing or when I open the story file from the output folder :(.
I think your problem is slightly different, Justyna.
It sounds like you are running into this recently-introduced Chrome bug (more information here). You should be able to work around the problem by previewing locally in a different web browser, or better yet, by uploading your content to a web server for testing. If you absolutely must preview locally in Google Chrome, you will need to install an earlier version of Flash Player for Google Chrome.
Hyperlinks do not work in web output - which i publish and preview locally via Chrome, explorer 9 and FIREFOX 19.0.2.
I click on the links which located inside a marker on the slide and instead of opening a website page nothing happens. all my hyperlinks are going to internet sites.
If you view published Storyline content on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.
To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published as described in this article.
Please let us know if you need anything else, and have a great day!
Hyperlinks will not work due to built in security in web browsers when you run a web site or web page from a local drive. This is a standard for web browsers.
You can publish your story to CD from within Storyline and run the IE dependant exe file or you can purchase a "web server on a stick" type product. I use one that works on all platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux, Android) flawlessly and never installs anything on the client computer. The product I use is not cheap, however, it is free to redistribute (unlimited), so the more you use it, the cost is distributed making it very cheap per user. By using this product, ALL my issues with hyperlinks, WebObjects, and even launching other locally installed websites outside of the Storyline structure are gone.
If you are interested in this idea search the internet for USB Web Server if you want to know the product I use PM me and I will provide you a link to the trial version. There are many products out there at varying prices that will meet your needs.
As Dennis mentioned, when publishing locally hyperlinks may not work due to the built in security settings. Here is a short article about things to consider when publishing your Storyline content.

Because this discussion is a little older, I want to make sure I understand your problem. Are any hyperlinks working for you in your course when it's hosted in an LMS? Do the hyperlinks point to other websites, or do they point to other documents stored on a server?
My colleague found the solution to his problem. Looks like all he needed to do was to put the hyperlink hitzone completely on the top layers of the slide.
I am facing the same issue with several projects. I made sure that it is not a layer problem. I am testing the LMS output on the LMS platform and the links don't work.
All the hyperlinks in other storyline outputs don't work as well.
The hyperlinks are in markers (c.f. screenshot). When hovering on them, they're highlighted but when clicked nothing happens.
What browser(s) have you tested the course in? Have you also confirmed that there aren't any security restrictions preventing the links from opening within your browsers?
Hi Articulate, I have a situation where Storyline 360 (v3.31) URL links do not work on an iPhone 7 (iOS 12.4.1) when they are placed on a slide. However, the identical links work fine in the same project when I place them in the Resources menu.
Here's my question: in the "guts" of the Storyline code, is there a difference between the URL functionality of links that are launched from a page vs links that are launched from the Resources menu?
When adding hyperlinks to a slide in Storyline 360, the behavior is the same as the Resources menu. The main difference between the two is that when linking to a URL on a slide, the appropriate trigger will need to be added:

Good Morning, Dennis.
Hyperlinks should be fully supported in HTML5. Would you mind submitting a Support Case and including a copy of your .story file so that we can take a look at the problem with you? Thanks!

Thanks Justin .
I'm glad to hear it's a bug in Chrome and not one in my project .
I usually use Firefox, so I will make sure I use that to preview my files.
Thanks again,
Justyna :)
Hi:
Sorry about the delay in answering this post. I just posted the case with detailed instructions on the publishing process I am using.
Since this product is now in distribution with all the flaws. I look forward to a speedy response prior to my next release in about 2 weeks.

Hi Justin,
I didn't get notification that my inquiry was answered...
I uploaded the published WEB product to the company server and shared the link with others - the hyperlinks work! (good thing)
but, when i want to test the published product hyperlinks LOCALLY - the same WEB published product hyperlinks aren't working.
My assumption that i need to publish in CD mode the product to test the hyperlinks locally (on my laptop)?
it is more convenient to me test the products locally and then ask the IT to upload..

Should it work in a LMS? Because it doesn't for us. :(
The only way my colleague made it work is by adding a web object in the slide, which is clearly not the best web practice. XD
Thank you for your help!

Thanks for the follow-up!
Glad to hear it Geneviève! It sounds like perhaps other things on that layer were blocking access to the hyperlinks.

Hi Fatma,
What browser(s) have you tested the course in? Have you also confirmed that there aren't any security restrictions preventing the links from opening within your browsers?
Hi Ashley,
Thanks so much for your reply.
I tried in Chrome and IE 11. There are no security restrictions set in Moodle and the websites I hyperlinked to are public.
Links in markers don't work while simple hyperlinks in text do.
Thanks ahead for your help.
Fatma
Hey Fatma,
Would you be able to share a sample .story file for us to take a look at?
You are welcome to share it with me privately here. Just please be sure to include the forum url/link.
Hey Fatma,
Thanks so much for sharing your project file and allowing me to take a look.
I was able to figure out the culprit and just replied to you via e-mail from your support case :)
