Storyline- including a video in the Resources Tab of Player makes file huge

May 19, 2016

So I have a video on one of my slides (182 mb)- that's not a problem...storyline file is 300 mb but when published that reduces to 38.7. The problem is, the client wants the video as a link within the Resources tab in the Player. When I did that and then published the course- it only reduces it to 220 mb. Is there something else I can do to get the file size down? Do files in the resources tab not get compressed? Thanks in advance!

Hi Ashley,  I'm linking to it locally- not to a url website.  I like the method you included...however the issue seems to be when the video file is attached to the resources in the player and then published... the video is not compressed. So for example the 34.7 MB published file becomes 220 MB...it seems to just tack on the 182 MB of the MP4.

Hi Danielle,

I think I'd want to take a look at your file and the video you've included as one the test I did myself with a video file laying around (regular MP4, fairly small at 326 KB - but what I had accessible from a previous user's course) when I placed that within the Resources tab I saw the file size of my published output at 1.89 MB - and when I removed it from the Resources tab and place it on the slide itself it was a size of 2.00 MB - so the slide set up (I didn't change any compression or publish quality settings) actually was a touch larger.
