Storyline Keeps Moving to Wrong Slide after Clicking Image

Nov 16, 2020

Hello, everyone!  Looking for some help on a Storyline issue that I have been pulling my hair out over.

I have a "launch page" where learners can click an image to be taken to a slide containing a video.  They can exit that slide at any time by clicking "return," which will bring them back to the launch page.  The problem is that if they click on another image, they will just be brought back to the previous video at the same place they left off.  For example:

A learner clicks on image 1, which then takes them to "Slide A."  They watch 30 seconds of the video and then click the "return" button and go back to the launch page.  They then click on image 2, which should take them to "Slide B."  Instead, they wind up back at "Slide A" at the same timestamp at which they left off.

I've attached a screenshot showing how I have the launch page currently set up.  I'm sure there is a simple solution to this but I can't figure it out for the life of me, haha.  Any advice would be much appreciated!  Thank you!

Hi, Adrian,

Picture 6 has a trigger to "Jump to time 127.25s on this slide." ???

I can't tell from the photo you attached what's at that point of the timeline. But my best guess is that it's preventing Audio 2 from completing. But the program rechecks and sees that Audio 1 is complete, so it executes the trigger to return to scene 15.

If deleting that "jump to time" trigger doesn't fix the problem, you can either upload your Storyline file for Forum users to troubleshoot, or submit it to the Support team.

Good luck!

Hi, Judy! Thank you so much for your response!

That "Jump to time" trigger was my ham-fisted attempt at stopping the audio from replaying every time the learner went back to the launch slide, haha. I found a more efficient way to do that, so it is changed on here. Sadly that didn't fix the problem, though. I've attached a file with the section that is causing me trouble. The last three images/continue button aren't live - I wanted to resolve the issue before moving forward.

Thank you again!

Create a layer on the launch page.  Add the Click audio to the layer.  Add two triggers:

  • Hide this layer when the timeline on this layer ends
  • Jump to Scene X when the timeline on this layer ends.

Repeat for each item that links to a different scene and you want the click audio.

Remove the triggers to play audio and jump to scenes on the Launch page.

See attached.

Judy: No worries!  I appreciate your help troubleshooting possible issues.

Garth: That fixed it!  I can't thank you enough for your help.  Not only will this allow me to finish up the course for my stakeholders, but I also learned a valuable trick that I can use going forward.  I truly appreciate your assistance!

Hope you both have a wonderful day :)
