Storyline module freezing in both preview and published modes

I have a story with 15 scenes that hangs up when I preview and when I publish for the web and view it in Chrome or Safari. The starting scene loads quickly, but when I click either on a menu button, or an object to jump to another scene, the 'working' icon shows and the content never loads.

Anyone have an idea what's causing this?
