For the life of me I can't figure out why the output of my my slides (created in Storyline 360) includes a big grey space below the slides with a scroll bar on the side. It's like the space is big enough to allow for scrollable content, but my slides only take up the top half of the space. Has anyone else come across this issue? Could it have something to do with my slide size?
It's in the modern player with all the controls disabled. It has the same result whether published for LMS and hosted on Moodle, or published for web and just opened up in a browser. I have attached a screen capture of what it looks like
Thanks for the screen recording, Preston. That's so strange! I noticed you're viewing the published file from your local hard drive. Does the same thing happen if you host it on your web server?
Yes, the same thing happens when I view the hosted version. I have tried it both on WordPress and on Moodle through hostmonster. It also happened on a previous version before I had inserted a scroll panel.
I do not see the problem happening in your test file.
Thanks for the file. It's the strangest thing, as I see the same grey area below the slides while in the preview. I tested even importing into a new Storyline course, so that the slide size wouldn't be a factor and that grey area remained.
I also tested changing all the modern player settings, such as Dark to Light, % of the player font, etc. and nothing had that grey area removed except changing to the Classic player.
I'm going to open a Support case so that our team can take a look - you'll see an email shortly confirming that.
Hi Preston! I wanted to be sure you saw the email that Gerald sent you.
We found out that the Modern player generates a scroll bar and dark gray rectangle at the bottom when a video is present in the next slide, and Gerald logged this as a possible software bug. Specifically, we're seeing this issue in Firefox, Edge, and Internet Explorer. The same doesn't happen in Chrome.
We'll be sure to keep you posted on any new information we receive. Thanks so much for bringing this problem to our attention!
I have not seen an email yet. I have seen the issue in both Edge and Chrome, although just the grey box appears without the scroll bar in Chrome. Do you know what I could do in the meantime to get rid of it?
Sorry you didn't receive our email! It would be from Support@Articulate.com. You may want to check your Spam or Junk folders to be sure it didn't end up there. In the meantime, I'll ask Gerald to resend it, and I'll pass along that extra information to him.
I wanted to follow up here since you didn't receive Gerald's initial email, he was able to test out your course and shared the following:
Hi Preston,
Thanks for contacting Articulate Support and for letting us know about this issue.
We found out that Modern player generates a scroll bar and dark gray rectangle at the bottom when a video is present in the next slide. I’ve logged it as a possible software bug.
From here, I’ll meet with my team to take a closer look so we can determine next steps. Sometimes my team catches errors in my logic and we don’t have a bug after all. Of course, if that’s the case, I’ll let you know!
I’ll let you know as soon as we have an update on this issue. Thanks so much again for letting us know about this, and I’m sorry if it’s slowing you down.
Let me know if you need anything else!
We'll keep you posted here and as a part of your support case!
Just came across the issue again, but this time with some slides I designed for mobile. The issue only appeared yesterday when I tripled the number of slides in my project from ~7 to ~24
We haven't seen any reports for mobile yet, so I'm glad you brought this up! What type of mobile device were you using for testing? Also, what mobile browsers were you using?
Yes, it's the same as the last one, just designed specifically for a mobile screen. 2 of every 3 screens have layers with videos on them. I have tested it on a Samsung Galaxy S7, Chrome browser and on a desktop Chrome browser.
Upon inspecting the code in the browser when viewing the project, it looks like the grey/black area beneath the content is actually there because it contains several video objects (300px x 150px each, see attached images) that show up in the CSS under <div id="video-pen" class="offscreen">
I don't know if these are just copies of all the videos in my project because Storyline's HTML5 uses "offscreen" elements to make it accessible for people who use screen reader software? but I doubt it should be behaving the way it is for me.
Hi heroes, I'm experiencing the same issue with the latest Storyline 360 using the latest Firefox and the latest Edge. The issue does not occur using the latest Chrome.
The Storyline package having this issue contains a few text slides, one video and uses the modern player. Here is an example.
Hiding the video within Storyline does not show the grey area and the scrolling bars.
I had submit a bug cas : #01559782. Does it look like the same issue Preston is experiencing ?
Hi Philippe. It looks like you're indeed experiencing the same issue. I see that Christopher confirmed the issue in your case, and I am seeing the same thing with your test link.
We'll be sure to update you with any changes to this behavior. Sorry for the trouble!

Hey Preston!
That definitely doesn't sound right--thanks for letting us know what's going on! Can you tell me more about your project?

I created a quick test file for you to test, and I included a scroll panel in case that was the cause of the problem. Does the scrolling problem happen when you view this link?
Could you also share your Web or LMS output file for me to test? Thanks!
Yes, the same thing happens when I view the hosted version. I have tried it both on WordPress and on Moodle through hostmonster. It also happened on a previous version before I had inserted a scroll panel.

Here is my course on Moodle.
Hello Preston and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
I appreciate you sharing a link to your course hosted in Moodle. I see the behavior you are reporting when taking a look at your link.
Would you be able to share the .story file for us to publish as well and do some testing?

Here it is.
The site gave me issues when trying to upload the file, so I zipped it, and it still gave me issues, so here is a link to the zipped file up on Google drive:

I would be fine using the classic player if there was a way to disable all controls and menus. Looking forward to the email, thank you!

Hey Preston,
Thanks for reaching out again.
Does this project have a video too? I know that seems to be part of the culprit identified in your last file.

Thanks for those details, Preston. We'll do some further testing with this bug in Chrome on Android devices and Chrome on a desktop.

I have also attached my storyline output.
Thanks for sharing this additional information. I'm sharing this with my team as we continue to investigate.

Hi everyone,
I think I have the same problem. Except there is no video anywhere in my project. See this peek.
I used the modern player (light theme), german version of SL360, Microsoft Edge 41.16299.726.0
Would be nice if this could work again without scolling. :)
Edit: Just tested this with the same slide and classic player, there is no scrolling. :) Just fyi.
Thanks so much for reaching out and sharing what you are experiencing as well Susi.
We have an open issue for courses without a video as well and we are working to track this down.
Were you able to test in other browsers or just Edge?
Thanks for letting us know that the classic player seems to be working well for you. I'll add this to our notes.
I'm attaching this conversation to the report as well so that we can update you when we can.
