Storyline Playback on Chrome

Sep 12, 2014

We are in the process of testing an LMS (Allen Communications) that will be deployed to our 8,000+ stores. Due to our credit card systems being tied in with the main store systems where the LMS will be launched (this will change in about 2 years), we cannot use Flash content. Our IT group will only allow us to deploy the Chrome browser with Flash, Chrome PDF Viewer, Adobe Reader, and JAVA disabled. We have some Storyline content published as HTML5 with video that we uploaded to the LMS for testing purposes. We are seeing some very strange behavior. The first time we launch the course, the video plays immediately with no problems. However, with all subsequent launches, the video takes about 45 seconds before it starts to play. We are trying to troubleshoot this in the office on our laptops using Chrome with Flash disabled. On our laptops, the video never plays at all.

Has anyone seen anything like this or does anyone have any suggestions?

I sure hope so, otherwise we will be using Authorware to develop content until the end of time. LOL! No, seriously. Stop laughing.

Thanks,

Hi Kelley,

I may be misunderstanding a part of your post - but you mentioned you can deploy it with "the Chrome browser with Flash," - but then you mentioned disabling Flash, so I'm assuming that was a typo? If you need to only access the HTML5 content, you'll want to point directly to the story_html5.html link to view your published content. Have you also tested outside the LMS to see if there is an issue occurring there as well? A great testing platform for SCORM content is SCORM Cloud which is a free, industry standard testing method.

Feel free to keep us posted after conducting some testing there as well.

Hi Kelley,

You may also want to confirm that your LMS can run without Java, as I know I've seen a few errors with other users whose LMS hadn't updated Java and that was causing playback issues within that environment only. Also, if you're unable to test at SCORM Cloud, but could share the .story file with us we'd be happy to test as well. You can post here in the forums using the paperclip icon.
