Storyline Player - Next button not working

I have set the player to advance to the next slide under two conditions - at the end of the timeline - and clicking the "next" button on the player. The slides advance as they should however the "next" button doesn't function. The "prev" and "next" options are set (checked) under the "slide navigation controls". Any thoughts on this?
