Storyline problem with the D2L platform and apple products

Jun 01, 2016

Hello,

We use Articulate Storyline in all of our courses to create interactive elements.

We integrate our HTML5 files in the D2L platform (BrightSpace). Since last year, our clients ask us to build responsive courses. In the platform, everything works well on PC, but we have problems with Apple products . We do not hear any sound when viewing a storyline files on iPhone or iPad.

Is someone else have this problem? Our customers ask us to fix the problem and we do not know what to do.

We have the latest Storyline update and all Apple devices are updated too. We have read many articles on this subject, but no solution was offered .

Thank you,
Stéphanie

Hello Christie,

Thank you for your quick reply!

I just did a test in ScormCloud and I have not had a problem with the sound on iPad and iPhone.

I think the problem really comes from the platform. We put our animations directly in HTML pages in an iframe.

When visiting the page for the first time, there is no sound. When I refreshes the page, the sound plays. The problem is random. Sometimes the sound plays at once and other times it is necessary to refresh the page or press Pause and then Play.

Thank you,

Stéphanie

Hi Stephanie,

Thanks for sharing that additional information here, and if the issue is within the platform that you're hosting, we'd differ to their support team for additional expertise. You mentioned refreshing it allows the audio to play - and perhaps that is an additional piece of information you can give to your users as they start the course?

Hi Ashley,

We will check with the technical team of the platform. If we have no solution, we may need to think about finding a tool that works on the platform because our client absolutely want it to work when visiting the page for the first time. He does not want the user to have to refresh the page on iPhone or iPad.

Thank you for your help,
Stéphanie

Hi Stéphanie,

Could you share a bit more about how you're embedding the content on the HTML page? Perhaps there is something in that set up which is causing the iOS devices to not pick it up correctly? It's not my area of expertise - but perhaps folks in the community will have additional insight into that set up.

Hi Ashley,

These are the two codes we use to integrate directly into HTML pages.

<iframe src="../../Animations/Chapitre3/biol1133_03_an_1/story_html5.html" width="100" height="721" data-width="740" data-height="721" class="anim" seamless scrolling="no"></iframe>

<div id="storyline"><iframe scrolling="no" frameborder="0" align="left" src="animations/activeoffer_1/story_html5.html" width="642" height="537"></iframe></div>

We use the Web option to publish. Do you think it could solve the problem if we publishing in a different way? In SCROM for example.

Now, I'm testing another way to integrate HTML5 files. I put a link to the HTML5 file. The Storyline animation opens in an external window. For now it seems to work on iPhone and iPad. I will continue to test and give you news. Perhaps we have here a solution!

Hi Stéphanie,

I don't know a ton about D2L - but I believe they accept SCORM Files so you could certainly try that. From your initial iframe code it does look l ike you are linking to the HTML5 output by using the story_html5.html - perhaps instead try just the story.html and then let Storyline determine which output to show as detailed here.

Hi Ahsley,

We also use story.html, but the problem also occurs and it is a problem between the platform and Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers.

I just completed my testing in the platform. I tested 30 animations. Instead of integrating all in HTML page, I added a link to html5 file. When the animation opens in a page, the sound always works on iPad and iPhone.
