Storyline Quiz (Submit All At Once) - PREV button issues due to force-response triggers
Aug 28, 2019
BACKGROUND
We built our 40-question knowledge assessment in Storyline. I opted to use the PREV/NEXT player navigation instead of SUBMIT so our users would have the opportunity to go back and review their answers, if needed. But we knew that functionality allowed users to skip questions, so we built Triggers to force a response to each question:
- Hide NEXT button when Timeline starts
- Show NEXT button when user clicks Radio Button (1, 2, 3...)
ISSUE
All of this works great until a user actually clicks the PREV button to go back. When they do, they have to click on one of the Radio buttons again to get the NEXT button to appear on each slide (even though a choice is already clearly selected).
I tried changing the Triggers to show NEXT based on radio button states, but that didn't seem to work.
Is there a different type of Trigger I should set up to force a response that will "stick" if the user clicks the PREV button?

So what are you using to actually submit the questions? The pressing of the next button? Are your slides set to resume saved state?
They use the NEXT button until they get to the review slide, then they SUBMIT.
Forgot about "Resume Saved State." I tested it, but I still have to click the radio button again to get the NEXT button to no longer be hidden. I know that has to do with setting the Trigger as "when user clicks," but nothing else I've tried has worked.
When you return to the prev slide, is it saving the button that is pressed? If so, then you could use a condition on your trigger, it may be tedious but you could have it say change state of next button to hidden if radio button 1 is not equal to selected, or radio button 2 is not equal to selected and so on.
I'm okay with tedious if it works, and it did! Thanks Randy for your help.
