Storyline video - seekbar plays but not video

May 15, 2023

Hi Everyone,

I've run into an issue I can't seem to fix.  I've created a video in Synthesia that I've inserted into Storyline and will ultimately upload into Rise as a Storyline Block.  The problem I'm running into is that the seekbar plays but the video doesn't.  The learner has the click on the "pause" button once or twice to get the video to play.  I'd like the video to play automatically or when the user clicks play.

Here is a little more context to the storyline...to avoid the "black" thumbnail, I added a photo to slide 1 and set the timeline to .25 and a trigger to 'jump to next slide when timeline ends'.  This works beautifully (the thumbnail is now the video and not the black background) but when storyline advances to slide 2, the seekbar plays but not the video. The learner has to click on the pause button once or twice to get it to play.

P.S. It seems to work in preview mode but not once it's uploaded to Rise

Hi Ryan,

I'm sorry to hear you've hit this snag! Thanks for sharing the published output. Can you also share your Storyline project file (*.story) with us so we can look at what you have set up, especially on slide 2? You may also share it with us privately by sending it along here. We'll delete it when we're done testing!

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for sharing your file with us. Super helpful to see your setup!

As a workaround, I'd suggest inserting a Cover Photo into the Player so that you only need one slide within Storyline 360. That way, your users will be able to see the still image and then select the play button within the Storyline block in Rise 360. This should remove the issue with the pause/play troubles on your end when embedding the Storyline file into Rise 360. Here's a quick peek where I explain the modifications in the Storyline file.

To add the Cover Photo:

  • Go to the HOME tab, select the Player button on the far right, and then select the Cover Photo checkbox to allow you to upload your image:

I'm also attaching the updated .story file to my reply so you can take a closer look.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Happy to help!
