I want to embed a video with large size in Articulate (not just the URL link to avoid user has to wait for the downloading) and then view it in full screen. Is it possible to do that? is the option "show the video in another browser window" the right one? I was told that this option works in Storyline 3, while it doesn't work with my Storyline 2. Could you help me?
- Mp4 file embedded in the slide: it works but the video is shown too small - Mp4 file embedded with the option to be shown in an other browser window; the new window is blank….while this option works well with Storyline 3 (as confirmed by a my colleague ) - Mp4 file by trigger: the user has to wait the file downloading but then the video is shown in full screen.
I would like to use option 2, mainly in case of videos with large size…so very slow to be downloaded, but it seems this option doesn’t work with Storyline2 or at least with my license.
In addition, I’m experiencing since a couple of months an other issue in publishing my project in Word: the output folder is empty (while in the past the .doc file was correctly there)
For option two, it looks like you're still testing the published content locally and that could cause the video to not open correctly. To properly test it, upload to your Web server or Learning Management System (LMS). If you don't have one to use right now check out Amazon S3, upload to Tempshare or SCORM Cloud.
Also, the issue you described with publishing to Word should not be occurring in the most recent update of Storyline 2 Update 12. Can you check that's the one you're using? Go to Help -> About Articulate Storyline.
You'll also want to make sure you're saving and publishing the Word file to your local drive (typically your C drive).
While about the publishing to Word, the strange thing is that it worked since a couple of months ago, then it stopped to work. Attached my Articulate version.
Thanks for letting us know! Glad the first issue is solved- let's get down to business with that second issue.
From your screenshot (thanks for including that!), it looks like you're on update 7 and the latest update for Storyline 2 is update 12. You can download the latest version right over here.
I've updated the new version (could you confirm me it's not a trial? ) but the issue persists....publishing in Word doesn't work: a new folder is created but it's empty.
Once you install the update and activate with your Storyline 2 serial number, you'll no longer be on the free trial.
When you're publishing your Word doc, can you check that you're publishing it locally vs. a network/shared drive? Can you also try on a new .story file vs the previous one you had been using in update 7? If you'd like to share the file with us here I'm also happy to give it a test.
Thanks for sharing your file. I opened it with Storyline 2 Update 12, and published it to Word. I've attached it here. Everything worked normally on my end, so I'd want to have you check the following again:
Is it every file in Storyline that won't publish to Word? Or just this one?
Confirm that you're on the latest Storyline update and that it's installed locally - to check go to Help -> About Articulate Storyline. You'll see the update number listed there.
When you're publishing locally, look to publish to your C: drive or your desktop.
What version of Windows are you using?
Are Storyline and Microsoft Word accessible with the same permissions, i.e. are they set to run both as administrator or both as end user?
Anything else you can think of about your set up would be helpful for us to keep troubleshooting!
- since a couple of months ago, I was able to publish in Word with the Update 7 without issue, then it stopped to work
- now I've installed the Storyline 2 Update 12, but the issue is not solved: I cannot publish my projects in Word. The issue affects all the projects both the ones created before the installation of the Update 12 and the new ones.
- when I try to publish in Word, the system created locally the folder "storyline output" , but it's empty
- I'm using Windows 7
- how can I check to answer to this question? "Are Storyline and Microsoft Word accessible with the same permissions, i.e. are they set to run both as administrator or both as end user?"
From your screen shot it looks like there may be more than one user profile installed on that computer? I saw two "Users" folders indicated by the string of numbers, and one even had a lock icon next to it:
Those could be the two different profiles and different permissions for how you access the content. First I'd check if instead of publishing to that output folder, can you publish direct onto the desktop (so that it's not buried as deep into your files) and second, can you figure out who that other user is on your computer?

Hi Valentina! I'm happy to help. Are you using a MP4 video file, or a video on the web?
I created a sample Storyline 2 file, and I included with a Web Object with a video set to open in a new browser window. Click here to view the sample file in action.
Here are the settings I used for that web object:
If you're still having trouble with your file, could you share a sample of it with me? I'd be happy to take a closer look!
Hi Alyssa,
I’m trying to insert a my mp4 file.
I’ve selected 3 different options:
- Mp4 file embedded in the slide: it works but the video is shown too small
- Mp4 file embedded with the option to be shown in an other browser window; the new window is blank….while this option works well with Storyline 3 (as confirmed by a my colleague )
- Mp4 file by trigger: the user has to wait the file downloading but then the video is shown in full screen.

I've tried to publish locally a new Articulate project, but the issue persists
I've attached both the new Articulate project (.zip) that some slides showing I'm publishing in local, but that the created folder is empty.
Ops, maybe you need the .story file
