Survey won't mark complete in LMS

Jun 22, 2018

Hello,

I recently published a short survey to our LMS and cannot seem to get it to mark as complete, no matter what settings I use. I have found that, for some reason, our LMS cuts off essay type survey responses when we publish in SCORM 1.2 so I published in 2004.  I have a results slide and have tried setting it up to track using slides viewed as well as to track by results (which is of course a 0 because it's a survey). I'm starting to get frustrated.  Any thoughts on how to publish?

Hi Lacey,

When you're using SCORM 1.2 vs. 2004, you'll see that different amounts of data are reported and stored within your LMS, which is expected. Using 2004 and the later version will give you the best results.

As far as the completion, did your LMS have a particular setting you need to use?

When publishing Storyline content as SCORM or AICC output, you get to choose one of these four reporting options:

  • Passed/Incomplete
  • Passed/Failed
  • Completed/Incomplete
  • Completed/Failed

Many LMSs track a completion status and a success status. To report both statuses, choose either Passed/Incomplete or Passed/Failed when you publish. Completed/Incomplete and Completed/Failed report only the completion status.

I'd confirm with your LMS which of those you should use in addition to slides viewed/results slide. Also, if you're still stuck it's worth taking a deeper look to see what exactly Storyline is sending to your LMS, and how that compares with another industry standard, you can enable LMS debug mode and look at testing your course in SCORM Cloud too. If you need help reading that debug log, let us know! Our Support Engineers are here to help.
