Synchronising Audio & Video Clips selectively

Oct 30, 2015

Hi guys! I'm refreshing our systems training and trying to give learners more control on how they absorb the training video components but am encountering a problem.

I've recorded video and audio of the presenter (me) separately in addition to the screen recordings of the system training. The idea is that by default the learner will see the screen recording and the presenter video (with audio)... but they can disable the presenter video if desired, but still hear the voiceover.

So far I've tried:

1) Audio on base, video on layer visible by default and clicking VIDEO icon hides / shows layer = worked well but video goes out of sync when layer hidden

2) Combined audio&video to one file, but couldn't find a way of sending the it "behind" the screen recording (to make it "hidden") with any variables etc.

Any thoughts or ideas?

This is kind of a crude way, but put both video and audio in same layer so they play together and stay in sync. Then, trigger some object that slaps on top of the video hiding it from view. It could be a section of the background and then it would just "disappear".

I'm thinking out loud here. Could you trigger the video object so that it moved off the screen (but otherwise kept playing)? I haven't tried that, but it might work.

Hi Christie, the files are quite large due to the videos so I can't really share them. Russ, I'm giving the "move offstage" thing a try... though I think that's only going to work properly if it's a single file with both audio and video anyway.

Really wish that Storyline would let you set videos (or at least the container around them) to hidden using states!
