Syncing timeline and audio

Jul 13, 2018

Hi there,

I'm new to Storyline. I have a slide with animations that are timed to an audio track I recorded. I've added a play/pause button so that the user can start/stop the audio at will. But now I'm realizing that the timeline begins immediately and if the user doesn't click the audio "play" button immediately all that syncing I spent time creating is lost.

Is there any way to delay the beginning of the timeline? I want the timeline to begin when the user clicks the "play" button that triggers the audio (or I want to create that effect for the user).

Any suggestions? Is there an easy solution I'm missing?

Yes, there is an easy solution. When you click to start the audio, jump to a slide with the audio set to start with the timeline. Then the timeline that controls the animations is the same timeline that controls the audio. Don't provide any means to pause the audio. If you have to pause or scrub the audio, use the slide's timeline. As long as the audio and slide start and stop at the same time, all the animations will be synched.

Hey Margo and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

I like the idea that Walt shared here.

Sounds like you have already built your slide to perfection, so here's an idea:

1. Right-click on Slide and do a Save as Picture (to capture the opening image of your slide)

2. Insert new slide prior to this slide

3. Add a 'Play' button that really just jumps to the synced slide that you created

Attached is a super simple sample using video.
