Tabbing Issues with on slides containing audio

Jun 09, 2022

Hello Heroes,

We are designing an accessible course where slide audio is being activated by a trigger and we experience a special behavior while tabbing on those slides having buttons:

1. When I tab with JAWS, JAWS highlights the slide, offers me to play  slide audio, I activate the audio with the custom built button and then tab through the slide with no issues.

2. When tabbing without JAWS, the tab goes to the main area and then goes to the buil-in audio button. If I skip playing audio with the built-in button, I never get to the buttons. If I activate the audio with the built-in button, I can get to the slide buttons only on the second run after tabbing through EVERYTHING in the browser. I am attaching a slide for your review.

It seems that activating the audio gives access to all elements on the screen but it works counterintuitevely if using the tabs only. Please advice on how to tackle the problem of playing the audio with the trigger and accessing the interaction buttons in a more user-friendly way.

Thank you

Hello Tamara,

Thanks for sharing your project file. I took a look at it and saw that the custom play button in the project file that you provided did not have any triggers associated with it that played audio.

I did tab through your slide and observed that I was able to cycle through the interactive objects in your slide using the tab key. In order to help clarify your experience, would you mind providing me with more details regarding the issue that you're encountering?

  • What is the version of JAWS that you are using?
  • What is the correct way to test the audio in your slide, since it appears to not be linked to any trigger?
  • If possible, would you mind providing us with a Peek 360 recording of the issue so we can take a closer look at it?
