How can I modify an existing template without creating a new template?
When I try to open an existing template (from Windows explorer) or select Import from a Storyline template, it opens as a project (I need to add individual slides) but I cannot access the template itself....
I understand that there is no way I can apply another template to an existing project and if I need to change the project template I need to create a new project with all the slides from scratch. Is that correct?
Hi Varda! You should be able to import the slides into your project. You are correct though, you should start with the template you are wanting to utilize as opposed to applying the template.
You can have more than one template in a Storyline project, so you should be able to add in another template and build slides based on that. If parts of your template are also set up as slide masters, you could apply those to individual slides.

Hi Varda!
You are going to want to utilize the Save As functionality and save as a .storytemplate as indicated in this documentation.
You could use the same name if you wish to overwrite the previous version of the template.
Thank you for your help.
