Template for customisable matching drag and drop

Mar 30, 2017

Hi

As far as I know, it's not possible to change the colours and box formatting on the built in matching drag and drop question slide. That being the case, we can remake it using freeform drag and drop of course. However, the tricky bit may be the feature of the answers re-ordering when one correct match is dragged, so that it doesn't cover the same position as another jigsaw piece.

Does anyone have quick advice on how to arrange the triggers to work this function? Its basically making sure that when some item is dragged into correct position, another item already in that position is shuffled out. A way that worked on all slides with shuffled answers would be nice.

Thanks

Hi Dave,

I´m sorry but I don´t know if I understand your question correctly. Could you share your story file odr the slide with us, so we know what your problem is?

And do you want only one item on a drop position and when it`s correct and an other item is dragged on it the second item jumps back without the first correct item to move away? If you don´t want to share your file at least a screenshot or two would help visualize your situation. :)

Greetings,

Hi Susi

Thanks for your reply.

In storyline there is a built in graded question type called matching drag and drop, which creates jigsaw pieces which match two statements. This has built in functionality which means that when you drag the correct answer to the correct place, it snaps in place and the piece already in that position shuffles down.

Using that built in question type would be fine, except you cannot change the formatting of the pieces, e.g. colour, border etc.

So to make this as a freeform drag and drop requires some triggers that when one piece is moved to the correct position, other pieces would shuffle down. Essentially I am wondering if someone has some ideas for triggers to duplicate the functionality of the built in graded matching drag and drop, using a freeform drag and drop.

Well, I know I could do it. With either variables or states. I think someone must have already been down this road though.

It would be so easy if either:

1. The matching drag and drop that is built in could be formatted

2. The "only allow one item on each drop target" worked fully. Right now it only triggers when a new item is dragged to a target (it doesn't recognize items which START on that target)
