Text-entry Blanks vs Misspellings

Mar 08, 2016

I'm working on a course and its Triggers are not working as I'd hope for my text-entry box variables.

I have two Triggers. Here they are:

As you can see, these triggers are meant to Show different layers.  However, they are going to the same layer, that layer being Misspelled "TEB with SM and Add". I'm assuming the problem lies in the teb_step_1_name_collaboration variable registering as the same outcome.

Does "!=Not equal to" mean a misspelling? Does "==Equal to (ignore case)" mean a blank?

Hi, Vanessa -- Thanks for your reply, and I decided to reach out to a few of my colleagues to see if they had any additional insights to offer. From what I was gather, using not equal to should trigger for anything not equal to Collaboration, but leaving it blank would not equal Collaboration. so that may be the issue. And may I ask if it is not working when you type another word in as well?

You may also want to share you file so we can take a closer look.

Thanks for looking into this, Emily! I renamed layer "Misspelled TEB with SM and Add" to " Misspelled TEB only".

I noticed part of the problem was the misuse of Collaboration vs Collaborator. I corrected it to make sure the correct text-entry is Collaboration. However, the same problem still exists between ==Equal to (ignore case) [blank] is acting the same as !=Not equal to

Hi Vanessa,

I pulled your file into a new file to play with the 2 triggers for these 2 layers. It appears you need to add another condition in the show layer trigger for Misspelled TEB only of "teb_step_1_name_collaboration is NOT Equal to  (blank) to get this to work properly. So if it is blank, SM and Add will show. See attached.
