text entry user must

Sep 12, 2019

Hello,

I have an issue with the text entry. It is an open entry freeform where the user can enter whatever he/she likes but they should enter something and not skip. Could you please help me with this. I have attached a video with the setting I have done so far.

Thank you. :)

Hi Geena,

You have set up your question so that it must be answered, however a blank response is still considered to be an answer when the button is selected, which is why the slide progresses. What you could do is to add a condition to your Navigate button trigger such that it only progresses if the variable is not equal to nothing, i.e. some text has been entered.

I hope that makes sense. If it doesn't work or if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to get back to me.

Hi Geena,

It shouldn't matter whether your user has to write a particular answer or whatever they wish to write, the key to solving your problem is the condition attached to the Submit Interaction trigger as I previously suggested.

If you look closely at the example that Wendy has provided, you will see how she has implemented that:

This is what prevents the interaction occurring until the user has entered something in the text box.

The only problem is that if there is no correct answer, there is no way of assessing the response to the question and so I would query why you are setting it up this way. There is nothing stopping you setting up a slide with the same information on it that collects the text that is typed in and saves it in the variable for later use, but I would be reluctant to try setting it up as a question slide.
