Text entry variable ref showing wrong text size

Aug 25, 2017

I have a curious issue in Storyline 2. I'm getting the learner to input some text entry (in a large text box) which I then compare with an ideal entry on the next screen. However,  when I reference it on the following screen it comes up in a different size font, from the ideal entry, even though the text boxes for the variable ref and ideal entry are the same font.  Any thoughts?  There's plenty of room for the text.

Hi Susan

I had this exact same problem about 12 months ago (using SL1)....oddly enough I was doing the exact same thing as you - text entry on page 1 with a comparison on page 2.

I don't think I ever found a "proper" answer to the problem, I just played around with the font size of the text box on the second page until it all fit.

Hi Susan,

You may find that text changes size when it includes a variable reference, depending on the length of the variable's current value. This is by design to ensure that the text is always visible to learners, no matter how lengthy it is.

For example, let's say you're using a variable to display text, then you update the variable with new text at a specific point on the timeline or during an interaction. Depending on the length of the text, it may shrink to fit within its container.

It sounds like you may have ensured the text box was big enough to accommodate the text, and it's still shrinking? Could you share a sample of that here with us?
