Text Object in Variable

Aug 31, 2022

Hello all. I have a project I am working on right now that I am using variables to force learners to click specific objects on the slide. I also have set variables for other objects to change the state to normal after all of the other objects are sitting in the visited state. I have all of this figured out and is fully working but on the "normal objects" the text boxes are not showing up... everything else is (shapes) perfectly. Are there limitations or hierarchy components for text boxes? I am losing my mind here lol. BTW the variable name is supposed to be popupassess not asses lol.

Here is the .story file . The problem lies in slide 1.6 Assess pt 2 within the popupasses targets group. If my variable looks weird or if it is just not liking the text box.. But if you run that slide through fully you will see a group of 2 rectangles and 2 circles (A and B text inside) appear after clicking all of the icons. I just need to know what the heck is going on so i can fix it and add these target variables to some other slides. Thanks for anyones help.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for sharing your project file. For design related inquiries, I find that its very helpful to see a video of what you're trying to achieve, so that me or other members of the community can better assist you.

For Articulate 360 subscribers, Peek 360 is the quickest way to record a screencast, and it's available for Windows and Mac. Follow the steps below:

  1. Launch Peek 360 on your computer and click New Recording.

  2. Select the application you want to record, then choose a microphone  (if you have one)  when the recording window appears.

  3. Click the red Record button and reproduce the issue.

  4. When you're finished, click Done on the recording control bar or click the Peek 360 icon in your system tray (by the clock).

  5. You can preview your recording, give it a name, and then click Upload to send it to your Articulate 360 account.

  6. Windows will notify you when it's done uploading, and a link to your screencast will automatically be copied to your clipboard.

  7. Share the link with us.

Here's the problem:

Groups don't play nicely (or predictably) with states and triggers.

I took Oval 1 and text Box 1, copied them, edited the states of Incorrect, and pasted the two of them on the normal state. I ungrouped them, and deleted them. I did the same for Correct. Then I moved them to the front of the timeline, and set their initial state to Hidden. I changed the triggers that show the correct and Incorrect layers.

At least it's predictable, and I think it does what you want.
