Threading a Needle Interaction

Dec 14, 2015

I have been asked if I could create an interaction where the user drags a tread through the eye of a needle.  Is there a way to do that in Storyline?  Thanks!

Hi, Amy -- Thanks for reaching out with your question! I did a search to see if a similar interaction had already been done by someone in the community, but unfortunately, I was unable to return any results that suit your sewing/needle and thread theme. You would be welcome to share your file if you already have something started so that others in the community are able to chime in with ideas and advice, or you could also post over in the Building Better Courses forum for additional design input and inspiration. Best of luck to you!

Hi Bill,

This interactive is still in the planning stages, so I'm not entirely certain what the next step is.  I can say that the general hope/idea is that when you click on the string it would go to a "zoom-in" of the eye of the needle (using states or layers), and then once you've dragged the thread through the needle it would return back to the base state/layer with a now threaded needle on the supplies table.  Does that make sense?

Makes sense. I mocked up what this might look like, which I did using separate slides instead of states. The more I tried to use states to accomplish this, the more convoluted the slides became. Someone else in the community may be able to point you in the direction of something more elegant, but I think this will do the job. (Please excuse the graphics...)
