Time Limits for SCORMs

Aug 02, 2021

Hi guys,

Had to put this out there because now the question has been asked of me I feel the need to make it everyone else's problem!

A client made a comment about "time-bombs" in eLearning packages - that is, an expiration date for the published SCORM package that is somehow embedded in the SCORM itself, not on whatever LMS is hosting it.

I was sure that this is something controlled by the end-user LMS, but now it has me wondering if there is something else. Does anyone know if this is a thing?

I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but just want to see if this is something anyone else is aware of.

Hi, Kylie,

Storyline can't create a "time bomb" on its own. However, one could use JavaScript to check for the date, and then prevent the user from going through the course if it's beyond the set expiration date.

But that method lets the user launch the course before they find out it's no longer available. So, to me, it seems this is something best controlled by the LMS.
