I am building a course on presentations and in part discuss rate of speech. I would like to provide a speech, have the participants hit a button which will start a timer, and hit that same button to stop it when they are done. It will then calculate the rate of speech for the user. Any ideas on how to get this going?
I am just calculating a words per minute. I have a speech, so i know how many words. ideally, the user would click start when they start reading out loud, click stop to end that, and it could return a value after doing the calculation.
To start, how would you create the timer you mentioned?

You can certainly create a custom timer that is started/stopped with a button. I'm not sure though how 'rate of speech' is defined.

There are a number of threads that discuss custom timers, here and here are some examples.
