True/False Drag and Drop Quiz

Apr 15, 2015

Hello

I am new to Articulate Storyline 2 and I would like to create a series of quizzes using the format shown in the attached document.  The user drags each of their answers to the drop spot and when the Submit button is clicked the drop spot column shows either a red box for an incorrect answer or a green box for the correct answer (see the second table in the attached document).

I have been trying for some time to achieve the configuration shown but have not been successful.

Could anyone please advise me how to achieve the quiz format shown in the document?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Wendy

Thank you for your prompt response.

The True or False response is dragged to the drop column. The answers are not revealed until the user clicks the submit button which causes the Correct answer to appear in Green and the Incorrect answer to appear in Red. See the second table in the attached document.

I hope this is a little clearer.

Best regards

Hi Anne

I have added two triggers for the first two questions Q1 True and Q2 False...not sure if this is the behaviour you are after.  Instead of doing this as a normal slide - you may be able to create what you want by using a Quiz > Freeform Drag and Drop slide that will allow the user to drag all five items then click submit.

Look at some of the tutorials on Converting an existing slide to freeform and Creating a Freeform Drag and Drop

Anne .

Thanks Wendy, this looks very close to what I need. I will indeed look at the tutorials you have suggested.

I had intended that the slide be a Freeform Drag and Drop Quiz. Both the True and the False options for each question would be capable of being dragged to the drop spot. In the drop position all the choices will still appear as Blue. Only when the Submit button is clicked would the answers to all five questions be displayed with False displaying as Red and True displaying as Green.

I have updated the attached document which I hope might help my explanation.

Hi Wendy and Ashley

I have made great progress with my slides following Wendy's model. Many thanks Wendy.

Yes, Ashley I have now looked at the information you suggested.

The drag and drop behaves as expected and the drop boxes look great.

I now have a problem when the Submit button is clicked.  I get a message stating - Invalid Answer - You must complete the question before submitting. The message appears despite all the items having been dragged to their respective drop boxes.

I know there must be a simple solution to the error message but I have yet to discover it.
Any advice you can provide would be gratefully received.

Best regards
Anne

Hi Anne

Q5F trigger was missing, and changing the Correct/Incorrect buttons trigger wasn't quite right, also the SUBMIT interaction trigger needs to go last...so you have everything changing and being evaluated when the user clicks submit, and the last trigger to fire is the interaction gets checked for correct/incorrect.

See attached file - hope this helps

For a newbie you've done very well with your triggers and variables ;-)

Hi Anne

Glad you got it working how you wanted and happy to help.  Re the results slide:

just add in a results slide and select which questions you want to be included.  Insert > New slide > Quizzing > Results slides.  Set your passing score or timer at the bottom, then as you add other questions you can select them here.  More often than not, SL will include them by default with the tick against 'include' if you are using any of the Graded quiz type slides, freeform or survey type questions.  If there are some you don't want included in the result, just deselect the 'include' tick.

Thanks Wendy. I'll give it a go.

Hello again

This is a different slide with a different problem.

I cannot see what the difference is between the various option but I have been unable to make option 4 behave in the intended way. I've tried deleting option 4 and then recreating it and a few other tricks but non seem to work. Any ideas?

Hi Anne

see if this is what you are after.  I created 7 new variables for this slide to account for each of the questions because...the variables we used in the previous slide will be triggered from 'false' to 'true' when the user drags and drops those objects on that previous slide.

I named them NS(new slide)Q1 - Q7 - you can rename them what you want and SL will automatically rename them where they are used.

Trick to remember on the triggers is:

Changing the CORRECT button to selected when ALL of your objects are correct so you use the AND with responses 1, 3, 4, 6 and 7

Changing the INCORRECT button to selected when ANY of your objects are not correct you use the OR with responses 2 and 5.

Let me know if you need more help.

Hi Anne,

The drag objects are not changing their state to 'correct' until the user clicks submit, but that is also what is checking to determine if the selected state of your correct/incorrect button should be shown and answer the question - so you'll need to change when these state changed happen. Could you use the "when the object is dropped" trigger? I'm not sure based on your file if you're ok with them seeing the dropped correct color before actually submitting or not?

Anne .

Hi Ashley

Thanks you for your response.  I am using the 'when the object is dropped on' trigger and this works perfectly for all drags except for the fourth one which is behaving out of character.  I can't see how this fourth one has been created any differently from the rest and that is my dilemma.  I'll keep checking through my triggers but it is not obvious what's gone wrong with the fourth drag.
