Try Again layer appears briefly before advancing to the next slide

Jan 31, 2020

I have created a 36-slide interactive software simulation in Storyline 360 . On four of the slides, the Try Again layer appears for a fraction of a second before the simulation advances to the next slide. The problem occurs in both preview mode and in the published simulation. I can't figure out how to prevent this from happening.

Here are some more details:

  • Operating system:  Windows 10
  • Storyline version: 3.36.21289.0
  • Publishing for the Web to my local hard drive
  • No transitions are defined for the affected slides
  • The triggers for jumping to the next slide are all key press triggers, but not all with the same parameters

I have closed Storyline and reopened it, and I have rebooted my computer. But these steps have no effect. Can anyone suggest avenues for further troubleshooting?

Hi Steve,

Are you able to share a copy of your file here as that would be a big help in trying to solve your problem? It may be a simple trigger issue, but without being able to see the file it is impossible to tell.

If you are not able to share the file due to content issues, what I would suggest is to compare a slide that is always working correctly to one where the Try Again layer is appearing and make sure that you don't have an extra trigger in there somewhere that is causing the problem. Trigger order is also often very important.

I am not aware of any current bugs regarding this issue, but if there are any, I am sure that Articulate staff will be in touch shortly.

Thanks

Hi Steve,

I'd agree with Ned, that the best way to diagnose what's happening is by taking a look at your .story file. It doesn't sound like any recent bugs or issues I've seen, so best to look "under the hood."

If you're able to share it here, folks in the community along with staff can weigh in. If you'd prefer to share it privately, you can upload it to our Support Team here. They'll test it and let you know one-on-one any next steps.

Hi Steve,

I reviewed your project and made a few changes to those slides that you referenced! I wasn't too sure about the exact setup you were looking for, so I adjusted some of the triggers and re-added correct layers to those questions.

I was able to get the questions to not show the Try Again layer after answering them correctly. I am attaching a revised and shortened version of your file to my comment. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Hi Steve,

Happy to share the changes I made! I will list them down below:

  • I first deleted this trigger from Jump to next slide when the user presses Delete to Submit Shortcut Keys 1 When the user presses Delete that appeared on each KeyPress trigger slides:
  • I then re-added the Correct Layer so the appropriate layer would show when the correct answer was submitted:

After making those adjustments, those slides were working as intended.

Please let me know if you have additional questions on this!
